Covid-19: Kuching turns orange, Samarahan among 8 yellow zones

KUCHING, Jan 8: Kuching is now a Covid-19 orange zone with a total of 25 local transmission cases in the past 14 days.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in stating this, reported a total of six local cases in Kuching today, including a four-month-old baby who had close contact with Case 1,158, the index case of the Keranji Tabuan Cluster.


Samarahan district, on the other hand, was converted from a green to yellow zone with one new local case reported today.

This, thus concludes a total of eight Covid-19 yellow zones in Sarawak.

The remaining seven yellow zones are Sri Aman, Miri, Sibu, Bintulu, Meradong, Bukit Mabong and Lawas, with a total of 19 local cases reported in the past 14 days.

The other 31 districts in the state remain safe as Covid-19 green zones.

Meanwhile, there are no new clusters reported by SDMC in Sarawak for the day, leaving four clusters active namely the Keranji Tabuan Cluster and Stutong Cluster in Kuching, Mador Cluster in Meradong and Bah Sayap Cluster in Miri.

The committee, in its daily Covid-19 statement today, said there was an increase of four new cases in the Keranji Tabuan Cluster, so the cluster now has a cumulative number of 10 cases.

Stutong Cluster in Kuching has one new case, thus there is now 12 cumulative number of cases in the cluster.

As for the Bah Sayap Cluster in Miri, SDMC reported three new cases, so the cluster now has a total of nine related cases. — DayakDaily
