Covid-19 kept at bay: Sarawak records 134 new cases including one in Category 4

KUCHING, April 23: Covid-19 in Sarawak continues to be kept at bay, with only 134 new cases reported today.

According to a statement by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), there was only one case in Category 4, while the rest were in Categories 1 and 2.


District-wise, Kuching remained the biggest contributor registering 38 cases, followed by Miri with 24 cases, Bintulu with 17 cases, and Sibu with 12 cases.

Other districts with new infections were Subis (5), Asajaya, Mukah, Pusa (4 each), Samarahan, Limbang (3 each), Sarikei, Sri Aman, Kanowit, Kapit, Saratok (2 each), Serian, Betong, Bau, Lubok Antu, Dalat, Lundu, Kabong, Julau, Pakan, and Meradong (1 each).

As of this day, Sarawak has accumulated 304,708 Covid-19 cases.

Meanwhile, SDMC reported one new Covid-19 death involving an 85-year-old female from Kuching.

The victim, who had suffered from hypertension, dyslipidemia, and heart disease, passed away at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) on April 21.

No new clusters were discovered, and Sarawak is currently free from any active Covid-19 clusters. — DayakDaily
