KUCHING, April 2: Sarawak continues to record triple-digit increases in new Covid-19 cases daily with 217 cases logged today, together with one fatality each in Bintulu and Sibu respectively.
Of the new cases, Bintulu led the pack with 74 infections followed by Sibu (46), Miri (30), Kuching (28), Julau (10), Meradong and Samarahan (5 each), Mukah and Saratok (3 each), Serian, Beluru, Kanowit and Matu (2 each) and Betong, Sarikei and Lubok Antu with one each.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily report on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, disclosed that with the new cases today, the state’s tally of positive cases has risen to 16,847 and the death toll to 112.
The 111th fatality or Case 16,701 involved a 51-year-old man who was referred to Bintulu Hospital’s Emergency Unit after suffering from breathing difficulty.
His rT-PCR test returned positive on April 1. However, the health of the patient who was comorbid with last stage kidney disease, diabetes, hypertension and heart disease deteriorated.
The 112th fatality or Case 11,466 involved a 79-year-old woman who was admitted to a quarantine centre after being identified as a close contact to a positive case, and her test result returned positive on March 8.
The patient was treated at Sibu Hospital. However, the health of the deceased who was comorbid with hypertension and dyslipidemia deteriorated and she passed away today (April 2).
Of the 217 new cases reported today, SDMC revealed that 25 cases were symptomatic while 123 cases involved individuals ordered to undergo quarantine at designated facilities.
There were also five imported cases out of which three were returnees from India, Singapore and Holland.
Of the new cases, 29 cases were linked to 12 active clusters with Tanjung Genting Cluster picking up six cases, Bulatan Aman (5 cases), Emperoh Jambu (4 cases), Kampung Baru Hilir (3 cases), and Jalan Sanyan (2 cases), while Jalan Tanjung, Jalan Kingsway, Batu Gong, Chupak, Jalan Muhibah and Jalan Baki registered one case each.
Currently, there are 36 active clusters in Sarawak.
Meanwhile, Sarawak also reported 193 recoveries with 61 patients discharged from Miri Hospital, 44 from Bintulu Hospital, 34 from Sibu Hospital, 17 from Sarikei Hospital, 17 from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), 13 from Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kapit, three from PKRC Betong, two from PKRC Mukah, and one each from PKRC Seriand and Limbang Hospital.
Thus, the total number of recovered cases in Sarawak has increased to 14,019 or 83.22 per cent of total positive cases so far. — DayakDaily
