KUCHING, Sept 13: Sarawak reported five fatalities due to Covid-19 today including one brought-in-dead (BID) case from Sibu while the State witnessed 3,522 new cases of coronavirus.
According to a report by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) on the update of the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, the five casualties involved three men and two women aged 54 to 86 whereby all of them had comorbidities.
Two of the death cases were from Kuching while one each from Bau, Sri Aman and Sibu.
With five new deaths, the death toll due to Covid-19 in Sarawak has increased to 630.
Besides, the Covid-19 cases in Sarawak decreased to 3,522 from a record high of 5,291 reported yesterday.
Out of the 3,522 cases today, 79.19 per cent or 2,789 cases were in Category 1 or asymptomatic, 20.70 per cent or 729 cases in Category 2 with mild symptoms and 0.11 per cent or four cases in Category 5 with lung infection and on ventilator support.
There were also one Import A case from an individual from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and six Import B cases from individuals from Sabah (5) and Selangor (1) whereby all of them were asymptomatic.
Based on cases in districts throughout the State, Kuching maintained its position as the district with the most number of new cases with 1,221.
This was followed by six districts with triple digits cases which include Bintulu with 382 new cases, Sibu (232), Serian (231), Miri (178), Lundu (110) and Mukah (106).
There were also 25 districts which reported double digits cases. They include Pusa with 84 new cases, Betong (82), Saratok (79), Asajaya (74), Sarikei (69), Sri Aman (68), Pakan (59), Subis (56), Sebauh (54), Lubok Antu (53), Samarahan (37), Limbang (35), Belaga (32), Kanowit (32), Kapit (31), Bau (31), Lawas (29), Tebedu (28), Beluru (20), Meradong (19), Selangau (19), Song (16), Dalat (13), Tatau (13) and Bukit Mabong (12).
Five districts reported single digit cases which include Simunjan with eight new cases, Matu (3), Tanjung Manis (3), Julau (2) and Telang Usan (1).
With 3,522 new cases today, the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has risen to 160,320.
On the other hand, 2,256 Covid-19 patients recovered, bringing total recoveries to 118,209 cases or 73.73 per cent of the confirmed cases in Sarawak.
In spite of that, 41,241 Covid-19 patients are still being treated throughout the State while 77 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 18 patients were on breathing support.
Likewise, there were six new clusters of Covid-19 identified with one each in Sarikei, Sebauh, Pakan, Beluru, Limbang and Subis.
Four clusters namely Sessang Cluster in Kabong, Central Park Batu Tiga Cluster in Kuching, Kampung Kendaie Cluster and Pandan Cluster, both in Lundu ended.
With six new clusters formed and four ended, there is a total of 137 active clusters of Covid-19 throughout the State out of which 22 active clusters reported 304 new cases of coronavirus. — DayakDaily
