Covid-19 cases in Serian down to seven today from yesterday’s 203

KUCHING, March 29: The number of Covid-19 cases in Serian has dropped tremendously to only seven cases today, ranking the eighth in the most number of new cases among other districts.

In yesterday (March 28)’s reports by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Serian recorded a spike in its number of Covid-19 infections with a record-high 203 where 191 cases were related to the Semuja Immigration Depot Centre.


Other districts seeing new Covid-19 cases for the day were Miri (47), Bintulu (38), Sibu (33), Kuching (23), Samarahan (13), Sri Aman (8), Kanowit (7), Sarikei (6), Kapit (4), Sebauh (2), Bau (1), Lawas (1), Marudi (1) and Subis (1).

With 192 new cases today, SDMC calculated a cumulative number of positive cases in Sarawak now stands at 16,061.

In brief, 126 cases were detected following close contact screenings where nine of them were symptomatic.

Another 22 cases were individual screenings from existing active clusters where four showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

Adding on, the committee noted 24 cases were from other screenings in health facilities, 13 cases from symptomatic tests in health facilities and another seven were Import-B cases who returned from other states in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, SDMC also registered two fatality cases today, involving one 62-year-old Sarawak female in Miri and another 51-year-old Sarawakian male in Bintulu, both having histories of comorbidities.

The cumulative number of death cases from Covid-19 has, since then, increased to 105 individuals.

There are also 2,853 patients who are still receiving treatment in the hospitals across the state. — DayakDaily
