Covid-19: Cases in Sarawak inch up slightly to 1,766

Covid-19 ... Clusters cause spike in cases.

KUCHING, Sept 23: Sarawak today reported 1,766 new Covid-19 cases, a slight increase from the 1,712 cases reported yesterday.

According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), 15 cases out of the new cases reported were spread over Categories 3, 4 and 5.

The balance of 1,751 cases or 99.15 per cent were asymptomatic or having mild symptoms.

This brings the cumulative number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases in Sarawak to 190,609.

A total of 36 out of 40 districts in the State reported new cases today.

By district, Kuching reported the highest number of new cases with 399 followed by Sibu with 247, Bintulu (217), Miri (191) and Bau (112).

Districts which reported double-digit gains comprise Tatau with 59 cases, Kanowit (54), Mukah (43), Saratok (42), Sarikei (41), Limbang (41), Sri Aman (39), Subis (36), Lundu (34), Serian (33), Kapit (29), Samarahan (26), Pakan (20), Meradong (15) and Tebedu (13).

Districts which reported single-digit increases were Betong with nine cases, Lawas (8), Bukit Mabong (8), Belaga (7), Simunjan (7), Beluru (6), Pusa (5), Asajaya (5), Julau (4), Selangau (4), Sebauh (4), Lubok Antu (3), Kabong (2), Song (1), Daro (1) and Dalat (1).

Meanwhile, 15 casualties reported including four brought-in-dead (BID) cases.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 deaths in Sarawak has increased to 725.

There was no new Covid-19 clusters announced today while four clusters comprising Kampung Bunuk Cluster (Kuching), Tanjong Bako Cluster (Kuching), Jalan Buan Cluster (Tatau) and Jalan Hospital Cluster (Sri Aman) were declared ended.

As such, there are still 131 active clusters in Sarawak, from which six active clusters reported 19 new Covid-19 cases today. — DayakDaily
