Covid-19 cases in Sarawak fall to 299, Kuching logs less than 100 cases for first time since May

KUCHING, Nov 14: The Covid-19 situation in Sarawak continued to improve with new cases in the State falling below the 300-mark today and cases in Kuching dropping below the 100-mark for the first time since May 2021.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC)’s update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today, Sarawak recorded 299 new Covid-19 cases.

This brings the cumulative number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Sarawak to 247,380 since the outbreak was first detected in March 2020.

SDMC said out of the 299 cases, seven cases were classified as critical as the patients were spread across Categories 3, 4 and 5.

Category 5 saw two Covid-19 patients who were intubated, Category 4 had four patients on breathing support, and Category 3 had a patient with pneumonia.

There were 200 Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms in Category 2 and 92 asymptomatic patients in Category 1.

By district, 29 out of 40 districts across the State recorded new Covid-19 cases.

Kuching remained the district with the highest number of new cases at 90. However, this contrasted with a long series of triple-digit figures reported by Kuching over the past five months.

Other districts which reported double-digit case counts today were Miri (54), Sibu (37), Bintulu (16), Limbang (12), Serian (10) and Bau (10).

Districts with less than 10 cases were Betong (9), Kapit (8), Lundu (7), Samarahan (7), Tanjung Manis (4), Daro (4), Simunjan (4), Sri Aman (4), Sarikei (4), Subis (3), Saratok (2), Song (2), Asajaya (2), Pusa (2), Meradong (1), Kanowit (1), Belaga (1), Dalat (1), Marudi (1), Bukit Mabong (1), Beluru (1) and Lubok Antu (1).

Eleven districts which recorded zero Covid-19 cases were Mukah, Lawas, Matu, Tebedu, Kabong, Selangau, Telang Usan, Tatau, Julau, Sebauh and Pakan.

Meanwhile, six new Covid-19 deaths were reported in Sarawak, bringing the overall death toll to 1,518.

Apart from that, there were no new Covid-19 clusters identified but the Tembok Limbang Cluster in Limbang and Jalan Matang Cluster in Kuching were declared ended.

With this, there are 11 active clusters of Covid-19 in the State. — DayakDaily
