Covid-19 cases in Sarawak down to double-digits but three deaths reported

KUCHING, Feb 8: Covid-19 cases in Sarawak dropped to double-digits compared to triple-digits yesterday as the state witnessed three more deaths due to Covid-19 today.

According to a press statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, Sarawak registered 84 new Covid-19 cases compared to 219 yesterday.


The committee said the cases were from Sibu (24), Song (23), Miri (10), Bintulu (9), Julau (5), Kapit (4), Bau (2), Pakan (2), Sri Aman (2), Samarahan (1), Lundu (1) and Sarikei (1).

With this, the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has increased to 5,760.

The state also saw three fatalities reported, involving elderly individuals aged 60, 74 and 89 in Sibu. This brings the state’s Covid-19 death toll to 53.

Meanwhile, there were 123 patients who recovered and were allowed to be discharged from various health facilities in Sarawak.

There were also 1,831 patients still being treated for Covid-19 in health facilities and low risk quarantine centres in Sarawak.

A total of 87 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases were reported with six PUI cases awaiting laboratory test results.

There were also 566 new Persons-Under-Surveillance (PUS) registered to undergo quarantine in various hotels and quarantine centres today.

Presently, 6,045 PUS are undergoing quarantine at 84 hotels and quarantine centres in Sarawak while a total of 61,702 PUS have completed their quarantine as of today. — DayakDaily
