Covid-19: 865 new cases, two new clusters identified

KUCHING, Oct 19: Malaysia recorded 865 new positive Covid-19 cases and three Covid-19 related deaths today.

Health director general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said from the total number of cases registered today, 858 of the cases were local transmissions while seven others were imported cases.

“A total of 643 cases were recorded from Sabah, followed by Selangor with 107 cases, Labuan (34), Penang (26), Perak (18), Melaka (16), Kuala Lumpur (seven), Negeri Sembilan (four), Kedah (three), Putrajaya (three), Johor (two), Pahang (one) and Terengganu (one).


“This brings the total cumulative cases of positive Covid-19 in the country to 21,363 with 7,456 active cases (34.90 per cent of total cases),” he said during the daily press conference on the country’s Covid-19 development, today.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham disclosed 405 cases involving positive Covid-19 had recovered and discharged from the hospitals, bringing the total cumulative numbers of recovery and discharged cases in the country to 13,717 cases (64.21 per cent).

He said three deaths involving Covid-19 were also recorded in Tawau Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sabah, involving two Malaysians and one foreigner.

“This brings the total number of death cases involving Covid-19 in the country to 190 (0.89 per cent). Currently, 99 individuals are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), and 32 of them are put under respiratory assistance,” he added.

Dr Noor Hisham also revealed that two new clusters had been identified namely the Hentian cluster (seven cases) in Hulu Langat district, Selangor, and Bukit Cluster (15 cases) involving the Melaka Tengah district, Alor Gajah and Jasin, in Melaka, where 22 individuals are found positive for Covid-19.

According to him, the case index for Hentian cluster is case number 18,664, who was found positive for Covid-19 after a symptomatic screening test conducted on Oct 15, and has been admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital.

“Close contact screening also identified six other individuals positive for Covid-19, and as of 12 pm today, 127 individuals have undergone the screening test while 120 of them are still waiting for laboratory test results,” he said.

For the Bukit cluster, Dr Noor Hisham added, the case index is case number 17,531 who was found to be positive for Covid-19 during a screening test conducted on Oct 13, and was admitted to Melaka Hospital.

“A close contact screening has identified 14 other individuals positive for Covid-19, and as of afternoon today, a total of 89 individuals have been screened, where 15 of them are found positive, while 73 others are negative, with one individual still waiting for laboratory test results,” he said. –DayakDaily.
