KUCHING Feb 24: Construction of a covered walkway connecting the overhead bridge to SMK Bandar Bintulu at Jalan Tun Hussein Onn is underway and expected to be completed in May this year.

In a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming revealed that the project is under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) provision for his constituency.

“I have discussed with the school and the Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG) to build this covered walkway to provide shade for students, especially during rainy days,” he said.

Pang said this upon visiting the project site with the Public Works Department (JKR) staff today.

He also discussed with JKR increasing the fence height over the road divider to prevent pedestrians from crossing.

“Walking across the road divider is very dangerous, and as public safety measures, road users and students should use the overhead bridge.

“To find a solution to overcome the traffic congestion in the area, we would hold a joint dialogue session with the school and the Road Transport Department,” he said.

Also present during the site visit was JKR Bintulu Division assistant engineer Ngu Tie Hwa. — DayakDaily
