SAMARAHAN, Sept 9: Two cousins tragically died in a freak road accident after a collision involving three vehicles this morning.
Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu disclosed that the accident occurred at at KM 13, Jalan Kota Samarahan – Mambong at about 11am.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the victims, a female motorcycle rider and male pillion rider were travelling from Kota Samarahan to Bt 15 Siburan when they crossed to the other side of the lane to overtake other vehicles.
“In the process of overtaking, they collided with a moving lorry from the opposite direction. The female rider, 18, from Kpg Sg Riset was dragged by the lorry and remained trapped under it until fire and rescue personnel arrived,” Alexson said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the male pillion rider, 24, also from Kpg Sg Riset was thrown off from the motorcycle onto the road before being run over by another moving car heading towards Bt 15 Siburan.
Both of them were pronounced dead by medical officers at the scene.
At the time of incident, the weather was reportedly fine.
Police were investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous or reckless driving.—DayakDaily
