KUCHING, Jan 4: A suspected drug trafficker today applied to the High Court for bail in order to care for her toddler, but her appeal was denied as she has been charged with an unbailable offence.

Accused Julia Mohamed Edwin, 36, had told the court that her one-year-old baby is sick and needed to be fed with breastmilk.

Judge Azahari Kamal ordered the accused to be further remanded until the conclusion of the trial. He fixed Jan 25 for case mention.

Julia is jointly charged with her husband, Aslan Pardie, 37, under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for alleged trafficking of 339.344 grams of Methamphetamine.

They were alleged to have committed the crime at about 1.30pm at a house in Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa on Nov 8 last year.

The offence is punishable under Subsection 39B(2) of the same Act and to be read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Fillanny Siji prosecuted, while counsel RJ Noel represented Aslan and counsel Osman Ibrahim represented Julia. — DayakDaily
