Court dismisses remand application against baseball bat-wielding man for allegedly causing harm

KUCHING, Jan 9: The Magistrate’s Court here dismissed a remand application made against a 34-year-old man who was alleged to have voluntarily caused hurt to another man by using a baseball bat.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali, who presided over the case, dismissed the remand application made by Inspector Philip Kanyai due to the lack of connecting factor, as the suspect was not there at the crime scene.


According to the brief facts of the case, the complainant, who is also the victim of the case, lodged a police report after he was attacked by a group of people whereby one of them hit him with a baseball bat and caused hurt to the left and back of his head, scarring his face and hurting his neck, at about 1.45am here on Jan 8, 2023.

The suspect was arrested by the police on Jan 9 and brought before the Magistrate’s Court to apply for remand for four days to assist in the police investigation.

However, Magistrate Syarifah dismissed the remand application as the suspect was not at the crime scene.
