Cops seek witnesses after 5yo boy killed in suspected hit-and-run at Jalan Mukah-Balingian

KUCHING, July 26: A five-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run incident at around 7pm at Kilometre 21, Jalan Mukah-Balingian, on Friday (July 25).

In a statement, Mukah District Police Chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said that preliminary investigations revealed the motorcycle, ridden by a 17-year-old boy with his cousin—the victim—as the pillion passenger, was travelling from Balingian and was attempting to turn into the Kampung Penipah junction when it was struck from behind by a car.

“As a result of the crash, the victim sustained severe injuries to his head and was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Mukah Hospital.

“The rider, on the hand, sustained injuries to his face and leg and was reported to be stable following the accident,” he said.

He said the driver of the car involved is believed to have fled the scene and has yet to come forward to file a police report.

Following that, he urged witnesses to come forward by contacting the investigating officer, Inspector Mohd Rahmat Jalimin, at 011-31627137 or by going to the nearest police station.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
