KUCHING, July 6: Police are investigating an incident involving a man allegedly assaulting a woman, as shown in a 40-second video clip that went viral on social media.
In a statement, Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said a report was received on July 4, and investigations found that the incident occurred on July 3 at about 8pm in the common area of a rented accommodation here.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident was believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the victim and the suspect.
“The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, which carries a penalty of imprisonment for up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both,” he said.
He also advised the public not to speculate or spread information that could interfere with police investigations.
