KUCHING, April 6: The Sarawak government will fully fund the construction of a medium-sized convention centre which is set to be developed in an upcoming resort township in Beraya, Miri, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
In a news report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), he said the project is part of a comprehensive master plan for Beraya, which will include an administrative centre, residential areas, an international school, commercial zones, hotels, and a marina for yachts and boats.
He added that the Sarawak government will fund the convention centre, affordable housing for the B40 group, and the necessary infrastructure, while the remaining components of the township will be developed in collaboration with the private sector.
“I expect it will take at least 10 years for Beraya to fully transform into a resort township, with incoming investments including a medium-sized convention centre that we will construct,” he said.
Abang Johari said this while speaking at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering hosted by the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Miri branches at a hotel on April 5.
Meanwhile, the Premier said that Beraya’s location, which is between Miri and Niah, is strategic and that it could boost growth in the Subis region, which includes Lambir, Bekenu, and the surrounding areas. — DayakDaily
