KUCHING, Nov 4:  A contractor has been asked to rebuild parts of the Kong Phin Road drainage project which had failed to meet the specifications set by the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).

The case was first brought to the attention of Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau (SUPP PCB) chief Wilfred Yap who later roped in MPP officers to look into the issue.

“I was recently approached by concerned residents staying at Kong Phin Road who complained to me that they were not satisfied with the quality of the construction works for the upgrading of drains in the area, from earth to concrete drains.

“Their spokesperson surnamed Kon who spoke on their behalf had requested for a proper inspection by officers from MPP to ensure that the ongoing construction works by the contractor was in accordance with the technical drawings and specifications under the contract,” said Yap in a statement today.

Yap immediately highlighted and brought up the matter to the attention of MPP and together with officers from MPP’s Engineering Department went to inspect and assess the situation.

“During the inspection at the construction site, officers from the Engineering Department of MPP discovered that the contractor had not carried out some parts of the upgrading works in accordance with the technical drawings and specifications.

“In view of this, the officers from MPP had instructed the contractor to demolish a certain section of the partially completed works which was not carried out in accordance with the technical drawings and specifications,” said Yap.

Yap who is also SUPP Kota Sentosa Chairman said he viewed the above matter seriously and will continue to monitor the situation until all the upgrading works are completed in full compliance with the technical drawings and specifications under the contract of works.
