KUCHING, July 20: A contractor escaped unharmed after a fire broke out at a telecommunications tower in Kampung Binyu Baru along the Kuching–Samarahan Expressway this evening while carrying out maintenance work.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), an emergency call reporting the incident was received at 8pm. A team from the Kota Samarahan station, assisted by the Tabuan Jaya station, were deployed to the scene.
Initial information indicated that a male worker was trapped on top of the tower when the fire broke out.
The victim had been carrying out maintenance work at an estimated height of 100 feet when the fire broke out.
However, he managed to climb down and escape safely before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters managed to put out the blaze, and the operation concluded at 8.32pm. — DayakDaily
