KUCHING, Dec 29: The contractor who completed the upgrading work of drains from earth to concrete at Kong Phin Road here is compelled to rectify and fix the shoddy work done following complaints from the residents.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) chief Wilfred Yap had recently attended to the complaints from the concerned residents who were not satisfied with the construction works on a section of the completed upgrading project.

According to Yap in a press release today, one of the residents surnamed Kon, who spoke on the behalf of the residents had requested for a proper inspection by officers from Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to ensure that the concrete used for the construction of the drains was in accordance with the specifications under the contract.

“The matter was highlighted and brought up to the attention of MPP where an officer in charge of the supervision of the construction works have requested the contractor to jointly inspect and assess the situation.

“During the joint inspection at the construction site, MPP had instructed the contractor to conduct a ‘Coring Test’ on the concrete used and the contractor had also agreed to carry out rectification works on their shoddy workmanship,” he explained.

Yap, who is also SUPP Kota Sentosa chairman, viewed this matter seriously and will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that the construction works were carried out and completed in full compliance with the technical drawings and specifications under the contract for upgrading of drains works.

“I will continue with the policy of ‘people above politics’ and serve as the eyes and ears of our community and will continue to highlight and try to resolve issues or problems of public interest affecting the public,” he reassured.

Anyone who come across problems of public interest but does not know how to deal with it can always call SUPP Public Complaint’s mobile number at 016-7797688 or 082-246999 or go directly to SUPP Head Office to request for assistance. – DayakDaily
