SIBU, April 14: The 10th General Operations Force Sarawak Brigade seized illicit cigarettes and alcoholic drinks estimated to be worth RM384,236 in two separate raids yesterday.
Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the raids, codenamed ‘Ops Taring Alpha’ were conducted at two locations.
“In the first raid on a retail store in Jalan Aman at 1.30pm, they confiscated an assortment of cigarettes worth RM28,320,”he said.
Zulkipli said the team continued with the operation at 5.30pm and netted RM359,916 worth of cigarettes and hard drinks at a premises in Jalan Nibong.
Customs tax had not been paid on all the items seized.
The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act 1969. — DayakDaily
