Consulate reports missing Indonesian at Gunung Tabai to Bau police on Aug 23

The missing Indonesia man is reportedly a resident of Kerinci.

BAU, Aug 28: The Bau District Police Headquarters (IPD) confirmed receiving a report of a missing Indonesian man at Gunung Tabai from the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching at 5.23pm on Aug 23.

Bau District Police chief DSP Jawai Francis Kempas said a search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched the following day on Aug 24.

The missing person, identified as Yoga Anggiska, is a resident of Kerinci, Indonesia.

He is believed to have been buried under a landslide while illegally mining for gold in the restricted area of Gunung Tabai area of Bau since Aug 13.

“As a result, on Aug 24, the Bau police, along with other rescue agencies including the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), and Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), initiated a search and rescue operation,” he said in a statement yesterday.

It was reported yesterday that the authorities have determined the rough location of the missing man’s body, and are currently working to extricate it from the landslide.

The police also advised the public to refrain from making any speculations that could disrupt public order and interfere with the investigation.

He further urged the public to avoid spreading any inaccurate information on social media.— DayakDaily
