KUCHING, April 30: A construction worker was fined RM2,000 or three months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for slapping and hitting his wife with a safety helmet after being unhappy when reprimanded for making noise.
The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi against Abdul Rahim Raini, 35, who pleaded guilty upon being charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code read together with Section 326A of the Penal Code.
The charge, if convicted, could result in a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
According to the charge, the man was accused of intentionally causing injuries to a 27-year-old victim on April 26, around 11pm at a house in Lorong 1 Cahya Indah Yayasan Sarawak。
The facts of the case revealed that the victim reprimanded the accused for making noise and asked him to sleep as he was intoxicated.
However, the accused was dissatisfied and proceeded to slap the victim’s left cheek before grabbing a safety helmet and hitting the victim on the back.
As a result of the incident, the victim suffered swelling on her back.
The victim subsequently lodged a police report, leading to the arrest of the accused on April 27.
Prosecution was conducted by Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer. — DayakDaily
