KUCHING, Nov 26: Construction work on the Kabong new township, located within the vicinity of Kabong town along the riverbank of Sungai Krian, is expected to commence at the end of this year.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg performed the groundbreaking ceremony to inaugurate works on the Kabong new township project that will expand across 26.65 acres of land today at the project site in Kabong.

The new township, to be developed by Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), is part of the Sarawak government’s efforts to transform rural towns and spur socio-economic growth to uplift the community.

According to the project brief, it would comprise a food court, dry and wet market, two-storey shophouses, two-storey mini shops, cottage industry premises, residential housing, a kindergarten, and a community hall.

LCDA pointed out that the Kabong new township that is strategically located along the coastal road link will provide more opportunities for the local Bumiputera entrepreneurs to own affordable business premises.

This will help to boost the economic activities especially the tourism and agriculture sectors in the district.
