KUCHING, March 8: The construction of the retaining wall at Sungai Baram near Marudi town to address riverbank erosion issues in the surrounding areas was completed on Jan 22.
According to Minister of Environment and Water Dato Sri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, the project was implemented under the Department of Irrigation and Drainage’s (DID) supervision.
“The total cost of the project was RM9.36 million,” he said in response to a question from Baram MP Anyi Ngau in Parliament yesterday (March 7).
Earlier, Anyi asked about the ministry’s plans on tackling the riverbank erosion issues, which threatens the safety of those staying in longhouses and the surrounding villages.
Tuan Ibrahim added that several other projects were also planned under the Rolling Plan 3 (RP3) 2023 of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) to address related problems.
“All projects are subject to approval under the RP3,” he explained. — DayakDaily
