KUCHING, May 14: Many parts of Kuching city especially high-ground areas have been experiencing low water pressure or no water at all since yesterday morning.

According to a notice issued by Kuching Water Board (KWB), the water supply interruption was due to the main connection works at the junction of Jalan Matang-Batu Kawa/Jalan Batu Kawa-Bau on the night of May 12.

The works affected the incoming supply to Datu Muda Reservoir and subsequently caused lower-level water supply.

“The Board apologises for the inconvenience caused and assures the consumers that every effort will be made to ensure that the disruptions are minimal.

“In addition, the Board continues to increase the water supply delivery capacity by providing tanker trucks until the water supply is restored to normal,” it said.

At the same time, special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, Michael Kong Feng Nian, said water connectivity has resumed in some areas but water pressure is still very low.

“We have been in constant communication with KWB since last night (May 13) and they are aware of the issue. We have been assured by KWB that they will act on this with urgency.

“In the meantime, our team will be on standby to provide assistance once we get a clearer picture,” he said in a statement today. – DayakDaily
