KUCHING, July 26: The project to upgrade the existing Long Lama-Logan Sibong Road is well ahead of schedule and will be completed in February 2024.
According to a statement, while reporting to Highland Development Agency (HDA) during its sixth board meeting, HDA regional director Semuel Belawan said of the projects under implementation, the upgrading of the existing Long Lama-Logan Sibong road was ahead of its schedule.
He said this RM66.794 million project was ahead of schedule at 82.31 per cent completion against its scheduled 58.68 per cent.
Its projected revised completion date is by February 2024.
Five other road projects are also on schedule. They include upgrades on Long Laput Road, Long Silat Road, Long Tikan-Long Jekitan Road and Long Mekaba Road and the stretch of road from Long Banga Junction to Pa Dalih Road.
In addition, Semuel said the construction of the new overhead power line and all its associated works to Integrated Highland Agriculture Station Site 3 in Long Banga costing RM6.226 million and the upgrading and construction of Long Buang, Long Tujang and Long Wat spur roads are also on schedule.
As for delayed projects, Semuel revealed there were four, namely the construction of the single lane bridge across Sungai Layun at Long Kevok, a project worth RM11.1 million, and the upgrading of Long Lama-Temala Junction Road and the Uma Akeh spur road costing RM42 million.
The third delayed project is the upgrading Long Selaan Road and Long Moh Road, which costs RM119.7 million while the fourth project which is the upgrading of the Long Atip and Long Bedian spur roads (RM21.1 million) is a critically delayed project.
Semuel explained that the delay was due to insufficient manpower and construction materials at the site and poor performance of the contractor.
Meanwhile, HDA chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said HDA prioritises primary infrastructure projects much needed in Baram area where 29 such projects in addition to 19 water and two power supply projects have been identified.
“Of them, eight have been completed, 12 under implementation, 18 under tender documentation and 12 under detailed design,” said Uggah in the statement today after chairing HDA’s sixth board meeting here yesterday.
The meeting was attended by Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang who is the HDA advisor, Mulu assemblyman and Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala, Baram MP Dato Anyie Ngau, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau and all HDA board members. — DayakDaily
