KUCHING, July 29: The compensation amount for the Bintulu Port takeover is subject to negotiations between the federal and Sarawak governments, says Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Hasbi Habibollah.

He said the Sarawak government has already agreed for the financial assets belonging to the Bintulu Port Authority (LPB) to be fully transferred to the federal government after the repeal of two related Bills (RUUs) come into effect.

The two Bills are Bintulu Port Authority (Dissolution) Bill 2024 and Declaration of an Area in the Bintulu District to be a Federal Port (Repeal) Bill 2024.

“The amount of compensation is subject to negotiations between the federal government and the Sarawak government which will then be brought up for consideration and approval by the Federal Cabinet.

“Following this, discussion, negotiation and review are always carried out periodically involving the federal government, Sarawak government and LPB, to ensure that the interests and rights of the federal and Sarawak governments are safeguarded,” he said when tabling the Declaration of an Area in the Bintulu District to be a Federal Port (Repeal) Bill 2024 in the Dewan Negara in Kuala Lumpur today.

He also revealed that the federal government is carrying out appropriate negotiations so that all permanent appointees and contract appointees at LPB continue their excellent services.

“Negotiations aim to ensure that they receive an offer that is no less good than what they are enjoying under the LPB administration from the Sarawak government,” he added. — DayakDaily
