Community leaders urged to play role as Covid-19 cases in Meradong longhouses raise ‘red flag’

BINTANGOR, March 26: The Covid-19 infection has spread to more longhouses in Meradong district which has raised the red flag.

Meradong district police chief DSP Sekam Anoi said today that 46 cases of Covid-19 were recorded on March 25 in five longhouses in the district from an active case detection.

“This new cases happened in several longhouses following an active case detection.


The longhouses are Rh Ujeh (Ulu Stras), Rh Nearly (Sg Sekijang), Rh Peter Kilas (Sg Selidap), Rh Ancal/Rh Buan (Sg Stubah) and Rh Bisa (Sg Sian).

They have a combined total of 14 doors with 372 residents,” he said.

Concerned for the safety of the people, he urged them to work closely with the authorities such as District Health Office, Rela, police and others in the fight against the spread of the disease.

‘They being the frontliners have been actively on the ground involving exposing themselves to the risk in the fight against the coronavirus,” he said.

He called on the people to always adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) which included wearing of face mask, social distancing, and washing hands.

“Community leaders such as ‘pemancha’, ‘penghulu’, longhouse head and chieftain should also play their part in preventing the disease from spreading to their areas and Meradong as a whole,” he said.
