Colonial govt quarters in Lundu town to be demolished to pave way for Lundu Administrative Centre

LUNDU, June 11: The British colonial era government quarters in Lundu town will be demolished to make way for the construction of a new Lundu Administrative Centre with designed landscape.

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg emphasised that as Sarawak transformed in the new era towards digital and green economy, Lundu should also have a modern administrative complex.

“But first, we need to demolish the old government quarters in order to build the new administrative complex.

“Hopefully, it will provide a more conducive environment that will give ‘omph’ (boost) to civil servants in delivering improved and better services to the people and Sarawak,” he said when addressing the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Lundu Administrative Centre at the project site here today.

With construction to be carried out in phases including using new building technology of industrialised building system (IBS), Abang Johari was made to understand that the construction for the first phase would take about 18 months.

Earlier on, acting State Secretary Dato Sri Abu Bakar Marzuki informed that the masterplan for the new Lundu Administrative Centre has been implemented and will be carried out in several phases.

“The first phase of the Complex will include the Lundu Administrative Centre, apart from offices of community leaders, the Native Court and several other agencies.

“Other phases to come is a housing area to provide a more conducive living environment for civil servants,” he said.

As an integrated complex, once completed, it will become a significant landmark in Lundu that will enable people to access services at one place easily and conveniently, Abu Bakar added

To enhance the capacity of civil service and improve services delivery to the people as well as to support Sarawak’s social-economic development, he informed that as many as 41 government quarters projects in districts and sub-districts worth RM1.5 billion have been approved by the Sarawak government under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

“And the new Lundu Administrative Centre is among the projects. We believe it will provide a more comfortable living environment for civil servants.

“This also reflects Abang Johari’s leadership and concerns for the well-being of civil servants,” he added. — DayakDaily
