KUCHING, March 19: Cockfighting cluster of Jalan Muhibbah in Betong continued to grow with 35 new Covid-19 cases added today.
With that, the cluster’s total has ballooned to 355.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas revealed that Jalan Muhibbah was among 11 active clusters in Sarawak which recorded an increase in daily infections today.
“A total of 3,300 individuals have been screened whereby 2,756 were negative and 189 still awaiting for lab test results,” he told a press conference on Covid-19 situation update for Sarawak today.
Apart from Jalan Muhibbah, workplace Jalan Merpati Cluster in Miri also logged double-digit cases today with 11 infections, taking the cluster’s total to 90.
A total of 400 individuals have been screened whereby 246 were negative and 64 were still awaiting for lab results.
The Jalan Tanjung Cluster in Bintulu and Begalak Cluster in Song both picked up six cases each, thus taking the clusters’ total to 40 and 68 respectively.
A total of 148 individuals linked to Jalan Tanjung has been screened whereby 108 were negative while no results were pending, while a total of 674 individuals linked to Begalak Cluster have been screened whereby 424 were negative and 182 still awaiting for lab results.
Another workplace cluster of Sanyan, which was linked to a supermarket in Sibu, registered four cases to push the cluster’s total to 25. A total of 25 individuals have been screened in which all were positive while no results were pending.
The Jalan Kampung Hilir Cluster in Sibu, Sena Cluster in Miri, Emperoh Jambu Cluster in Kuching and Gelong Cluster in Kapit each registered three cases today.
As such, Jalan Kampung Hilir Cluster’s total has grown to 43 while Sena to 83, Emperoh Jambu to 328 and Gelong to 257.
A total of 49 individuals linked to Jalan Kampung Hilir Cluster has been screened whereby four were negative and two were still awaiting for lab results.
As for Sena Cluster, a total of 250 individuals have been screened whereby 155 were negative and 12 were still awaiting for lab results.
A total of 2,000 individuals linked to Emperoh Jambu have been screened whereby 1,466 were negative and 206 still awaiting for lab results.
For Gelong Cluster, a total of 302 individuals have been screened whereby 45 were negative and no results were pending.
The Nanga Bulo Cluster in Julau also added two cases to increase the cluster’s total to 36. A total of 162 individuals have been screened whereby 126 were negative and no results were pending.
The Semuja Immigration Depot Cluster in Serian, which was linked to illegal immigrants, topped the list of daily infections among these 11 active clusters with 146 new cases to take the cluster’s total of 245.
Currently, Sarawak has a total of 34 active clusters. The remaining 23 cluster did not record any cases today. — DayakDaily
