Cockfighting Jalan Muhibbah cluster sees 31 new cases

Covid-19 ... Clusters cause spike in cases.

KUCHING, March 6: The Jalan Muhibbah Cluster of Covid-19 reported the most number of new cases today.

According to a press statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, the Jalan Muhibbah Cluster in Betong reported 31 new cases of coronavirus today.


The Jalan Muhibbah Cluster was believed to have formed following a social gathering event on Feb 10 which involved cockfighting at a longhouse in Betong.

As a result, a 50-year-old Covid-19 positive case was identified through symptomatic screening on Feb 16.

With the extra 31 new cases, the number of people infected in the Jalan Muhibbah Cluster has increased to 220 cases.

A total of 2,621 individuals related to the cluster have been swabbed while 2,019 individuals tested negative and 382 individuals were awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test.

In the meantime, there are a total of 26 active clusters of Covid-19 in Sarawak.

Out of the 26 active clusters, four active clusters reported new cases.

They are Jalan Muhibbah in Betong, Bukit Tunggal in Julau, Emperoh Jambu in Kuching and Sungai Bakong in Meradong.

The Bukit Tunggal Cluster is a new cluster of Covid-19 identified today and reported 28 new cases.

The Emperoh Jambu Cluster in Kuching reported 11 new cases and the Sungai Bakong Cluster in Meradong reported two new cases.

Other Covid-19 active clusters in Sarawak namely Buloh (Selangau), Gelong (Kapit), Kampung Sungai Maong (Kuching), Jalan Green (Kuching), Jalan Ho Pin (Samarahan), Kejatau (Sri Aman), Jan Yong (Kapit), Geronggang (Sibu), Mas Merah (Sibu), Univista (Samarahan), Kidurong Dua (Bintulu), Nanga Ligan (Julau), Seruas (Beluru), Sebangkoi (Sri Aman), Jun Heng (Bintulu), Bintang Daily (Meradong), Jalan Pengiran (Matu), Tabong (Bau), Indah Riang (Kuching), Rakut (Miri), Jelita (Miri) and Pasai (Sibu) did not  report new cases. —DayakDaily
