KUCHING, Mar 17: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg acknowledged that Sarawak has produced outstanding women in various fields especially in the discipline of rare expertise.
He revealed that a local woman from Kuching has made the state proud for being an expert in the field of hydrogen studies.
Abang Johari during his speech on the state level International Women’s Day celebration today said the woman, who made a courtesy call on him together with four other scientists from the International Atomic Energy Agency last year is from Kampung No 4, Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol here.
“Some time at the end of last year, I had a visit from five women from the nuclear energy agency.
“And these people, all of them scientists and one among them asked me, do you have any expertise on how to store hydrogen?
“The interesting thing is this, nearly three-quarters of our conversation, I spoke in Bahasa Malaysia and English, but towards the end, she spoke in Bahasa Sarawak,” he shared.
Abang Johari who is also Finance and Economic Planning Minister said the woman had a doctorate qualification in hydrogen storage and did her studies in Australia.
Thus, he believed her achievement is a testament that the state is capable of producing good talent of world-class quality.
Abang Johari pointed out that the woman informed him the storage of hydrogen is important in order to grow the hydrogen economy.
Hence, the chief minister said the state government is looking to bring her back to the state and play an important role in the development of the hydrogen economy in Sarawak.
Earlier, he outlined that Sarawak aims to create a sustainable economy through renewable energy, including developing the hydrogen economy.
Among those who attended the state-level International Women’s Day celebration were Abang Johari’s wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, Assistant Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Francis Hardin Hollis, Assistant Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus, Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali and invited guests. — DayakDaily
