KUCHING, Nov 2: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has proposed that Bukit Kemuyang be included in Sibu’s development plan.
He said the authorities have identified the area as another centre for Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) to expand its development plan to in Sibu.
“The area will be connected to Bukit Lima as well as to Kampung Nangka which will become an urban and commercial area,” he said when officiating at SMC’s 40th anniversary celebration via Zoom today.
Abang Johari also mentioned developing real estate in Sibu as part of the development plan for Sibu which will definitely become a source of revenue for the division.
He added that big projects in the pipeline include plans to redevelop Bukit Assek.
“We have (set up) a special committee to re-generate as well as redevelop Bukit Assek. I have asked Sarawak Planning Unit (EPU) to work together with Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) to redevelop Bukit Assek.
“This is a very momentous task because it needs a lot of cooperation among the (relevant) agencies as well as the people of Bukit Assek,” he elaborated.
He also disclosed that the State government has approved Bukit Lima as a nature reserve to serve as a green area for Sibu.
“In any city, there must be a place for the people to enjoy, (a place equipped with) recreational facilities. I have instructed Forest Department of Sarawak (FDS) and Land and Survey Department to declare Bukit Lima as a nature reserve similar to Piasau in Miri as well as Sama Jaya in Kuching,” he emphasised.
Amongst those participating in the programme were Local Government and Housing (MLGH) Minister Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, MLGH assistant ministers Datu Dr Penguang Manggil and Dr Annuar Rapaee as well as SMC chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horth. – DayakDaily
