KOTA SAMARAHAN, Oct 24: A new expressway project connecting Kota Samarahan straight to Petra Jaya is in the planning stage and will be implemented under the 12th Malaysia Plan.

Disclosing this, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said another expressway is also in the plan as he foresees the existing coastal road will be congested once it is fully completed.

“Residents living in the Samarahan area will have another alternative route which connects them directly to Petra Jaya via a bridge across the Sarawak River near Sejingkat area. From there, they can travel directly to Jalan Sultan Tengah and all the way up to Santubong.

“Apart from reducing traffic congestion on the existing expressway, we will also upgrade all existing roads to dual carriageway,” he said after officiating the upgrading project for five roundabouts along Kuching-Samarahan Expressway groundbreaking ceremony today.

Abang Johari also revealed that the state government is planning to upgrade the stretch of road from 7th mile to Siniawan and Bau, to a dual carriageway.

In preparation for Sarawak to achieve a developed state by 2030, Abang Johari asserted that is when the entire city of Kuching is accessible by dual carriageway roads and other infrastructures and in turn attracts more investors as well. —DayakDaily
