CM launches ‘Medan Selera Daro’ at Daro Town Extension Phase II

KUCHING, Nov 5: ‘Medan Selera Daro’, set to be a new landmark attraction in Daro district was launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Daro Town Extension Phase II project today.

‘Medan Selera Daro’ is estimated to be worth about RM3 million and began construction on Nov 12, 2018, before it was completed on June 29, 2020, will be fully managed by Daro District Council, and has started its operation since July 1, this year.

The project features various eateries and food stalls run by locals with a host of unique delicacies and is expected to generate a substantial amount of income for the residents in the area as well as attract tourists.


After the groundbreaking ceremony, the chief minister was briefed on the project by Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) General Manager Monaliza Zaidel, as the implementing agency.

Apart from that, Daro incumbent Shafiee Ahmad also allocated more than RM400,000 to build a stage in ‘Medan Selera Daro’ to further improve its facilities and attract more visitors. The stage was completed on July 26, 2021.

According to LCDA, the Sarawak government through the LCDA will develop the Daro Town Extension Phase II located in the Daro District to meet the social and economic activities of the locals.

“Among the components of the project planned and to be built on this 5.19 acres land are 10 units of two double-storey mini shops, 20 units of double-storey shophouses and 10 units of cottage industry.

“The earthwork is expected to start in December 2021 which will take approximately six months to complete,” it said in a statement today.

LCDA noted the Daro Town Extension Phase II project is also a high impact project that is being implemented not only to change the socio-economic landscape of the community in the district but also Daro itself with various developments and infrastructure.

“It is also expected to provide more business opportunities to the local Bumiputera entrepreneurs.

“With the construction of the Batang Lassa Bridge and Batang Igan Bridge which is expected to be completed in the year 2023 and 2024 respectively, it will boost the economic and business activities in the Daro District, especially for the Daro Town Extension Phase II area,” it added. — DayakDaily
