SIBU, May 12: A clerk’s dream of owning a home was dashed when she got cheated in a house purchase scam.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said in September 2018, the 52-year-old victim met a broker who offered a house for sale at Taman Jerawit.

“She was told by the suspect that he could help process her application if she was interested. But she had to pay a deposit of RM10,000,” he said.

On October 9 that year, the victim called up the suspect, voicing her interest to book a house which was purportedly still in construction.

“She met the suspect and his female accomplice. The victim made a deposit into the woman’s bank account for RM10,000,” he added.

However when she visited the construction site, she was shocked to learn that the house had been bought by someone.

Stanley said the victim tried to contact the two suspects but failed. She realised she had been cheated and lodged a police report.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. — DayakDaily
