KUCHING, Feb 19: European Union (EU) ambassadors have expressed intentions to help Sarawak because of zero grey areas in the State’s policies, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Abang Johari said the visit by EU ambassador delegation last week, was the first ever engagement by them as an EU bloc with Sarawak.

“They came here because they know we are moving forward. Our policy is clear. There is no grey area or ambiguity, and then they say they want to assist us,” he said during the Office of Premier of Sarawak’s (OPS) 2024 Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here today.

He said European countries have the technology needed by Sarawak in order to progress in the green energy industry.

According to him, the reason why Sarawak is concentrating on the energy industry is because Sarawak has the strength to formulate policies that can transform and translate the economic policy to be in line with the challenges facing the world.

“We have amended our law so that we can become an active player in this energy (sector) together with the challenges faced by us as a result of climate change.

“We are also getting experts to join the civil service in order to give us input based on the current tech and current concept of development that is based on environment,” he added.

The delegation also visited microalgae production facilities, as well as Laila Taib Ethnobotanic Garden, and research and data storage centres.

Also present were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operations) and the event’s organising chairperson Datu Hii Chang Kee. — DayakDaily
