KUCHING, July 20: Over 100 residents of Kampung Yoh in Bintulu now enjoy direct access to clean, filtered water in their homes following the completion and official handover of the Yayasan PETRONAS Clean Water Project today.
The handover ceremony was held at the public hall in Kampung Yoh, where Yayasan PETRONAS chief executive officer (CEO) Shariah Nelly Francis officially handed over the clean water system to chief of Sebauh District, Penghulu Morshidi Tali.
The event was witnessed by State Minister for Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development and Kemena assemblyman Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.
According to a fact sheet, the clean water project was implemented by Yayasan Ikhlas and supported by Yayasan PETRONAS, the social impact arm of PETRONAS (Petroliam Nasional Berhad), and has benefitted 37 households in Kampung Yoh.
Through this effort, Yayasan PETRONAS aims to provide rural communities with easier access to clean filtered water, which can substantially contribute to better health and quality of life.
“This initiative underscores Yayasan PETRONAS’ commitment to enhancing community well-being and supporting projects that address essential needs,” the foundation said in a statement.
In conjunction with the project handover, Yayasan PETRONAS and Yayasan Ikhlas also distributed food baskets to the Kampung Yoh community.
The clean water initiative is part of Yayasan PETRONAS’ ongoing efforts to improve the living standards of rural communities across Sarawak, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 — Clean Water and Sanitation.
Earlier in Sept 2024, Yayasan PETRONAS and Yayasan Ikhlas completed a similar clean water project in Kampung Lakutan, Lawas, where 26 houses now benefit from a Gravity Water System that provides a reliable source of treated clean water. — DayakDaily
