KUCHING, Aug 20: The Construction Industry Development Board’s (CIDB) Imported Material Inspection and Compliance (CIMIC) system, now 50 per cent complete, is set to slash the verification period for construction materials from 21 days to just seven working days.

In a TVS news report, Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said CIMIC will fully digitalise the application and verification reporting process, ensuring greater data accuracy while improving overall efficiency.

“The system is designed to handle a higher volume of applications without additional administrative burden, while also providing comprehensive automated reporting.

“It will reduce costs and shorten processing time, while expanding capacity to accommodate more applications with automatic and comprehensive reporting,” he said during the ministry’s winding-up session in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Aug 19).

Nanta emphasised that the initiative is in line with the Ministry’s Bureaucratic Reform Agenda and the aspirations of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which prioritise innovation and digital transformation in the construction sector.

He called on all industry players to support CIMIC’s rollout, stressing that closer collaboration between government and industry will boost the competitiveness of Malaysia’s construction sector. — DayakDaily
