Churches, temples in Telang Usan have received RM3.255 mln in allocations

MIRI, Sept 24: For the period of 2018 to 2019, a total RM3.255 million worth of allocations has been disbursed by Unit For other Religious (Unifor) to churches and temples within Telang Usan constituency.

“This proves that Sarawak government, under the leadership of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg cares for the Rakyat of other religions in the State apart from Islam, ” said Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau.


Dennis was presenting cheques to eight churches and one Chinese cemetery under Telang Usan constituency at a hotel here, involving allocations totaling RM865,000.

The recipients were St Peter church in Long Ikang; St Paul Church Long Aton; St Anthony Church Long Nuah; Roman Catholic (RC)church Blessed Sacrement church Long Lama;BEM Long Tujang; BEM Long Jenalung ; building a transit house for a Chinese cemetery in Long Akah and the construction of another church.

“These are the first phase recipients for the year 2020, while for the second phase, Unifor has set aside allocation worth at RM1.2million for Telang Usan,” Dennis revealed.

In 2018, a total 18 churches in Telang Usan constituency benefited from Unifor with allocations amounting RM600,000 being disbursed, while in 2019 for the first phase, five churches received RM440,000 in funding.
