BETONG, May 14: More is needed to be done for the tourism sector in Betong as it has a lot of potential that has not been fully tapped so far.

Betong MP Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat, in raising this, thus suggested that the future organiser of the Betong Gawai Carnival should include more local products, activities and programmes to promote and develop the tourism sector.

“We have natural tourist destinations. We also have Bukit Sadok, where our anti-Brooke regime legend Rentap had built his fortress.

“These need to be promoted,” he said after launching the Betong 2022 Gawai Carnival here today.

Chuat also urged the people to continue to be united and treasure the existing political stability in Sarawak.

“Betong’s crop of past and present leaders had laid a very solid framework of infrastructure and amenities.

“Their efforts had been greatly facilitated by the solid unity and support of the people,” he said.

He gave assurance that many more would be done to bring further progress to Betong as well as for the well-being and prosperity of the people, including modern agriculture.

Earlier, Chuat represented Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas to present Petronas and Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG) Gawai goodies to 50 recipients at the Betong Resident Office.

The two corporations had chosen some 500 families in the division to receive the gifts this year with Petronas contributing 300 packs while MLNG 200 packs under their ‘Sentuhan Kasih Gawai’ 2022 programme. — DayakDaily
