Christmas Parade will see road closures tomorrow

KUCHING, Dec 6: Members of the public going to the city center on December 7, 2019 are advised to plan their journey ahead due to road closure for the Christmas Parade 2019.

Kuching district police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said about 8,000 people and 14 decorated vehicles will take part in the parade which will start from Jubilee Ground from 6pm to 10pm.

ā€œTo ensure the program goes smoothly as planned, IPD Kuching traffic department will implement a number of road closures and detours throughout the parade route.


ā€œThe public is advise to plan their own travel times if there is a need to go to the city center, obey the traffic signs and instruction by the police officers on-duty, and to choose alternative routes along the road closure during the Christmas Parade 2019 in order to avoid traffic congestion,ā€ he said in a statement today.

Awang also noted that enforcement action based on the Road Transport Act 1987 will be taken against those who disobey the instruction of police officers on duty during the parade.

The road closure for the Christmas Parade 2019 will start at 6pm until 10pm involving Jalan Padungan, from Sri Aman roundabout in Padungan to Abell road, and from Jalan Lebuh Wayang towards Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman Yakub.

Traffic personnel will also be place at certain traffic light and road junction, namely in Jalan Abell/Jalan Padungan traffic light, Jalan Lebuh Wayang traffic light, Jalan and Song Thian Cheok/Jalan Ban Hock traffic light, including Ban Hock roundabout and Jalan Deshon junction.

Members of the public who wish to attend or participate in the parade are advise to park their vehicles on the left side of the road in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, designated car park along Jalan Khoo Hun Yeang, and Jubilee Ground car park.
