KUCHING, April 1: DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen has sought the help of Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) to speed up delivery of food supply for 1,754 families struggling to buy food amid the statewide Movement Control Order (MCO).
Chong had today personally sent an official letter to request CMO’s urgent attention on the matter to ensure the families located in Kuching, Stampin, Puncak Borneo, Petrajaya and Siniawan will not go hungry in the next few days.
Receiving him at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here was Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who immediately contacted Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah to facilitate the delivery.
Chong said that the DAP centres have received many requests for food assistance to be delivered to their homes over the last few days.
“Many have run out of money to buy food for their families due to the closure of business and slow down of economic activities.
“As such we have collected the information including names, IC numbers, addresses and contact numbers of affected families and submitted the list to the Welfare Department,” he explained in a press statement.
There were three batches of applicants namely 238 families in the first batch which list was submitted on March 30, 611 families (second batch March 31) and 905 families (third batch April 1).
“We have contacted almost 238 families in the first batch but none of them have received the essential food items from the Welfare Department yet.
“As such, I have no choice but to write to the Chief Minister’s Office requesting for urgent action to be taken.
“A big thanks to Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah for his quick action. We hope that the Welfare Department will act quickly so that the applicants and their families will not go hungry in the next few days,” he added. —DayakDaily
