KUCHING, April 28: Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen is urging the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Office to update the list of hardcore poor families in Stampin so that more aid can reach the needy.

He said over half of the contacts on the list provided by ICU for him to distribute shopping vouchers in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidil Fitri celebration, were out of date.

“For the whole of yesterday, my three assistants called up all the phone contacts in the list. To our surprise, more than half of the phone contacts were outdated and not in service.

“If the government’s records are so outdated, how then can government programs be effectively in reaching out to this group who are the most vulnerable and need assistance in our society,” he said in a statement today.

Chong, who is also Padungan assemblyman, today gave away shopping vouchers worth RM200 each to approximately 70 hardcore poor families.

He said the vouchers were purchased from e-mart supermarket with the allocation for the Stampin parliamentary constituency to help ease the people’s burden during the festive season. — Dayakdaily
