KUCHING, Aug 4: Two Chinese nationals were rescued after falling into the Sarawak River near an apartment along Jalan Petanak here in the early hours today.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Padungan responded to the emergency at 3.04am and a team of firefighters was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found three individuals clinging to the riverbank.
Initial information indicated that an adult Chinese woman had fallen into the river, while an adult Chinese man entered the water in an attempt to rescue her. An apartment employee also jumped into the river to assist and prevent the pair from being swept away by the current.
Firefighters carried out a rescue operation using a lifebuoy and rescue ropes, successfully bringing the two victims to safety.
The man and woman were subsequently escorted back to their apartment residence by security personnel before being handed over to the police for further action.
Both individuals declined medical treatment and refused transportation to hospital.
The incident was brought under control at 3.45am, and the operation concluded at 4.18am. No injuries were reported. — DayakDaily
