KUCHING, Dec 4: CRE International Co Ltd, a global leader in renewable energy and a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), has reaffirmed its partnership with Sarawak to explore solar and hydro energy projects, including advanced energy storage solutions, with a potential investment of USD1.5 billion.
The partnership was solidified during a working visit led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan to CRE International’s headquarters in Beijing, China, on Dec 3.
Awang Tengah, who also serves as Sarawak’s Minister of International Trade, Industry, and Investment, highlighted the significance of the partnership in advancing Sarawak’s renewable energy goals.
“This collaboration underscores Sarawak’s dedication to advancing our renewable energy agenda and attracting global investments to support sustainable development,” he said in a statement today.
The Sarawak delegation, warmly received by CRE International Chairman Zhang Yan and top management, toured the company’s state-of-the-art Command Centre.
They observed advanced monitoring systems and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies deployed across CRE International’s renewable energy projects in 31 provinces across China.
Zhang reaffirmed CRE International’s commitment, stating, “Our partnership with Sarawak opens avenues to blend global expertise with local potential, fostering innovative solutions for renewable energy growth.”
The collaboration builds on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on Oct 11 between CRE International and InvestSarawak.
The MoU outlines plans to develop renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and energy storage solutions, with a projected capacity of 2 gigawatts.
Key focus areas include identifying suitable project sites, establishing financial frameworks, and coordinating with local authorities for effective implementation.
The integration of advanced energy storage systems is expected to enhance the reliability and efficiency of Sarawak’s renewable energy infrastructure, strengthening its position in the sector and supporting the State’s clean energy agenda.
Accompanying Awang Tengah were Ministry’s advisor Dato Seri Naroden Majais, permanent secretary Dzulkarnain Masron, Land and Survey Deparment director Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmod, InvestSarawak CEO Timothy Ong and Recoda CEO Datuk Ismawi Ismuni. — DayakDaily
