“The company has expressed interest in participating in existing opportunities for floating solar in Sarawak with 2 gigawatts (GW) being the optimal capacity.

“In addition, China Energy may also explore investments into areas such as waste to energy and water treatment plants which they have expertise in,” it said.

Given the availability of biomass resources and the ability to produce green hydrogen, Sarawak is well-positioned for their investment into this area where 200,000 tonnes of green methanol is the targeted capacity for the proposed plant.

Besides conventional energy and existing renewables like wind and solar power, the company is also pioneering future energy sources such as green hydrogen and methanol.

Currently, the company is building China’s largest green hydrogen and ammonia plant which will be operational in 2026 anchored on strong research and development capabilities.

On the same note, to support Sarawak’s green energy strategies, the company is also proposing to set up a centre for renewable energy that will allow local skills development and training to increase the talent pool for this thriving sector.

Awang Tengah welcomed the investment from China Energy International Group as the series of investment proposals are in line with Sarawak’s goals of achieving economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental prosperity.

Among the Sarawak delegation were Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED) advisor Dato Seri Mohd Naroden Majais; MINTRED permanent secretary Dzulkornain Masron; INVEST Sarawak chief executive officer (CEO) Timothy Ong; and RECODA CEO Datuk Ismawi Ismuni. — DayakDaily
