Chicken rice shop owner fined RM30k for housing 6 illegal immigrants

SIBU, Dec 13: A chicken rice shop owner has been fined RM30,000 by the Sessions Court here today for housing six illegal immigrants on his premises.

The accused, 53, was charged under Section 55E(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and faced 3 months in jail if he failed to pay the fine.

Section 55E(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, states that an occupier must not permit illegal immigrants to enter or remain at a premises.


The section provides for a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000 or imprisonment of up to one year or both, for each illegal immigrant involved, if convicted.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charges before Sessions Court Judge Marutin Pagan

The accused was charged with committing the offense on November 26 this year at about 10.08am at a chicken rice shop in Lorong Salim 5B3 by allowing six Indonesians aged 22 to 48 to enter his premises.

The case was prosecuted by Immigration Officer Sapura Let while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.

The accused, however, was allowed to go free by the court after paying the fine. — DayakDaily
