KUCHING, Oct 24: Changing Sarawak’s Tuan Yang Terutama (TYT) Yang Di-Pertua Negeri’s status to a Sultan is a crazy idea, says Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He was referring to Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan who claimed in a statement that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government could abuse its power to amend the Sarawak Constitution to turn the Sarawak TYT into a Sultan.

“Where in the world did he come up with that idea that Sarawak might be coming up to have its own sultanate? He (Voon) is a lawyer, you know. There’s a possibility that he has become senile.

“Coming from a very senior lawyer who knows about how the State Constitution works, there is no way we can just change the TYT’s (position) into a sultanate. That is totally crazy and it can only come from a crazy person,” he said when met by reporters at the Baitul Makmur II building here today.

Abdul Karim who is Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president further refuted Voon’s separate remark that GPS leaders should not be arrogant in referring smaller parties like PBK as a ‘mosquito party’.

“Well, stating that your party is a mosquito party does not mean we (GPS) are arrogant.

“You have to admit it is a mosquito party anyways as they (PBK) have been contesting and losing deposits and all that, so what more can you say?” he stated. — DayakDaily
