KUCHING, Aug 13: The Ministry of Communication and Multimedia will be looking into issues involving the termination and changes to Iban radio programming by Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) Sarawak, says Saratok MP Ali Biju.

According to Ali, he has taken note of the recent changes in Iban programming on RTM Sarawak, including various complaints raised by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and respected Iban figures on the matter.

“Therefore, I had sought to bring this urgent and serious matter to the immediate attention of the Minister for Communications and Multimedia Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.

“We had a constructive discussion this afternoon and the minister has assured me that he will look into the matter immediately,” he said in a press statement today.

Ali said that as an Iban, he completely understands the paramount importance of Iban radio programming as it affects many aspects of our daily lives.

He said radio was still the main mode of communication for important news and information for many Ibans living in the interior of Sarawak.

“The latest changes to programming as well as the termination of various shows has not been well received by almost all Iban listeners, and many of them have personally messaged me.

“The changes in programming has disrupted the flow of vital news and information to all Ibans living all over Sarawak, including the cancellation of popular time-tested shows has made many listeners angry. This is extremely regrettable,” he added.—DayakDaily
